For a long time I’ve forwarded many email addresses to a single Gmail account, a setup I call Inbox Heaven. It’s great because you get a unified inbox to collect mail from multiple email addresses that you can check on any device.

One caveat has been that Mail on the iPhone and iPad won’t let…

Why can't I click and drag in OS X Mountain Lion?

In Mac OS X Lion, click and drag can be done by enabling the drag lock function in Trackpad preference.

However, in OS X Mountain lion this drag lock function seems to be missing.

But instead this function actually can be enabled through the accessibility panel. To enable it, go to System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad > Trackpad Options > Enable Dragging

You can use single finger double tap dragging though… Apple has hidden that feature in System Preferences => Accessibility => Mouse & Trackpad => Trackpad Options => “Enable dragging”

Slow PDF Performance in Preview

When viewing some large PDF files in Preview, performance can get pretty sluggish — lags when changing pages, zooming, etc. To speed things up, you can try saving a copy of the PDF file using Preview (File » Save As). In my experience, this usually produces a file that is a few times larger than the original file, but the viewing performance will improve considerably.

Unable to 'Buy Card' in iPhoto 11

After carefully crafting a card, I realised, the ‘Buy Card’ button was greyed out at the bottom of iPhoto. Even creating books, calendars didn’t work.

Solution:

Backup your current iPhoto Library
Rebuild your iPhoto Library by pressing CMD + Option when launching iPhoto.
Check the following:
1. Repair the iPhoto Library Database
2. Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup
3. Examine and repair iPhoto Library file permissions

Finally, I’ve found the solution that has bug my iPhone 4 for the past few days. The issues appear whenever I sync my iPhone 4 to my iTunes (Mac).

Error Message

Whenever I synced my iPhone, it would prompt me the following error message, “The iPhone cannot be synced. The required file can not be found” when it syncs my photos.

Solution

The solution is simple and takes less than 5 minutes. All you have to do is delete the iPod Photo Cache from the folder where you’re syncing your photos from. For example to sync with iPhoto, you’ll have to access the iPhoto Library’s iPod Photo Cache. That means, right clicking the folder > Show Package Contents to access the folder. I suppose this solution should work with other iOS devices since the way iTunes syncs the photos are the same.

Lion Drag Lock Gesture With One Finger

Problem:

Since Mac OS X Lion, Click and Drag seems to be only available with only Three Finger Drag only. You won’t be able to find One Finger Drag in Trackpad Preferences anymore.

Solution:

Apple has shifted the settings to Universal Access.

Go to System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad > Trackpad Options

Click on the Dragging check box, and select with Drag Lock.

Voila! There you have it, One Finger Drag Lock.

Syncing Notational Velocity Data with Dropbox

I love Notational Velocity for its simplicity, but I prefer the text files to be stored on my Dropbox for easier access from my iPhone/Windows.

Here’s how to do it.

Download and install Dropbox

In Notational Velocity, navigate to Preferences > Notes > Storage.

For Store and read notes on disk as:, select an option other than Single Database; e.g., Plain Text Files.

In the Finder, drag your Notational Data folder (by default in ~/Library/Application Support/) to the Dropbox folder in your home directory.

Dropbox will now synchronize your notes across computers.

Finder: Sidebar Folder Link Can't Be Removed

Problem:

The problem began when I realize a shortcut aka alias attached to the sidebar of my Finder did not work anymore. I wanted to remove this dead link.

I can’t click and drag the shortcut out of the sidebar as you usually would.

Solution:

Hold down the “Command” key and drag off the sidebar. This is easy, thanks to the experts over at the Apple Support.

In case you did not already know, I’m a huge fan of apps that can understand plain English, parse it, and turn it into meaningful and appropriate action. I have been since experiencing it first on the Apple Newton with the Assist feature.

Alert Notes does this very thing and does so rather well. I have had the pleasure of being a part of the beta test team and I can say that the finished product works as advertised. Jot down “Remind me to take my meds at 6pm every day” and you will get a notification to do that very thing at that very time daily. Or, “Wake me up in three hours”. Yep. “Call my Dad tomorrow at noon”. Boom!

That is what makes this a killer reminder app. You tell it what you want and it does the hard work for you. Really neat little app and worth checking out.
